Broadband Antenna Concept

The contribution deals with the strategy of parametric study and optimization of the well known antennas - e.g. dipole, spiral, Vivaldi, ridged horn. The goal is to achieve parameters of a new quality with better physical understanding. In the case of particular ultra wideband applications it is crucial to know the transient responses of antennas too. The optimization process searches the antenna shape and accomplishes three required parameters - good matching, minimal distortion and smaller antenna dimensions. The parametric study and the manual step-by-step method are used in the process of antenna optimization. In this concept, the antenna is described as a generalized filter in a spatial frequency/time and polarization domain.
